I discovered this when I arrived at the office this morning. The pipe had broken, I think, in the early morning hours because everything was soaked when I got there. My office is in the basement, and I knew something was wrong when I stepped into a puddle of water at the base of the stairs leading down. A colleague and I quickly shut the water to the building off to minimize the damage.
As far as I am concerned, this is Exhibit A for why I do not -- and you should not -- keep paper files. I run a paperless office for the benefit of my clients. If you keep paper files, there is just too much risk of loss from fire, flood, or some other catastrophe.
